City Council approves the hiring of a new city manager

The Celina City Council has approved the hiring of Jason W. Laumer as the new City Manager, effective on Aug. 28.

Laumer is the current Director of Development Services for the Town of Little Elm, and has been in that position since 2011.  A Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager, Laumer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2000.  He began with Little Elm in 2007 as Town Engineer, following seven years as a consulting engineer with TRC, working with several area cities on a variety of projects.

In his current position, Laumer oversees a staff of 26 support personnel with responsibilities in planning, building safety, engineering, development, GIS, health services and code compliance.  He maintains close collaboration with the Town’s Economic Development Director in recruiting and retaining commercial and residential business ventures and developments.

Laumer has been an active participant in the establishment and execution of Tax-Incentive Reinvestment Zones, Public Improvement Districts, Municipal Management Districts, and Fresh Water Supply Districts.

As a result of the wide variety and scope of the responsibilities and disciplines which fall under his direct and indirect supervision, Laumer has developed close professional working relationships with members of the executive management team, and is often consulted on matters relating to Public Works, Streets, Finance, Parks and Recreation, Water, Wastewater, and other Town departments.

In addition, he has developed interagency relationships with state and federal agencies, working closely on a number of Town-improvement projects with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Texas Department of Transportation, FEMA and representatives of other entities.

Laumer has been a key catalyst in the development of the emerging Lakefront District in Little Elm, transforming the formerly undeveloped central area of Town into a vibrant combination of upscale and convenient dining, entertainment, residential, beach-themed amenities, trails, parks, lakeside and civic facility services.

Celina Mayor Sean Terry says Laumer is the right fit for the growing community. “We are excited about bringing Jason in as the next City Manager in Celina. I have known Jason for 5 years and I have not met a more committed person in his profession,” he said.  “Jason will be the driving force in keeping Celina a winning town in Collin and Denton County. We are excited that Jason has chosen Celina and we are looking forward for Jason bringing his knowledge and skills to the fastest growing city in the area.”

In his professional experience, Laumer has held fast to the values of innovation, customer service, efficiency and integrity.  He has been married to his high school sweetheart since 1998 and has two young daughters.
