Elections
The City Secretary serves as the Chief Election Official for the City of Celina. City elections shall be conducted in accordance with the Texas Election Code. The regular city elections shall be held annually on the first Saturday in May. Special elections shall be held on dates as required by the Texas Election Code. The City of Celina operates as a Home Rule Municipality with a Council/Manager form of government. The Mayor and six Council Members are elected at large.

This year a mayor and council persons for Place 4 and Place 5 will be elected to serve at-large (not geographically based), three-year terms. The terms of office will be from November 2020 to May 2023.
Notice of Filing Period
The first day to file for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, January __, 2021. The deadline to file is 5:00 p.m. February __, 2021.

The last day to register to vote in order to be able to vote in the December 8, 2020 election is November 9, 2020. Click here

Tuesday, December 8, 2020, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Celina ISD Administration Bldg., Aubrey City Hall, Pilot Point Sr. Center 2021 Election will be held on May 1, 2021
Terms
Council members are elected "at-large," each representing the entire community, and each serving three-year terms. The Mayor and Places 4 and 5 terms are up May 2, 2020, Places 2, 3, are up May 1, 2021, and Places 1 and 6 are up May 7, 2022.
Qualifications for Office
All candidates for office must file an Application for a Place on the General Election Ballot along with an Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer, be citizens of the United States, have lived in the state for a minimum of one year prior to the filing deadline, be a resident of the City of Celina for six months prior to the filing deadline; must be a registered voter of the city as of the filing deadline, and be a minimum of 18 years of age.
The filing deadline for a May General Election is the 108th day before election day until the 78th day before election day. Qualified residents interested in filing for a place on the ballot can download a candidate packet or pick up a candidate packet from City Hall located at 142 N. Ohio Street on the square.
