Citizen Police Academy

CLASS SIGN-UPS FOR FALL 2023 ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED:

CPA Patch

We present the Citizens Police Academy (CPA), an initiative designed to foster stronger ties and enhance the relationship between the Celina Police Department and the community it serves. This comprehensive program spans nine (9) weeks and includes 11 class days, covering a wide range of topics such as criminal law, patrol tactics, and criminal investigations. As part of the academy, participants may also visit the local Detention Center in Collin County. By completing this course, attendees will be equipped to act as ambassadors for the Celina Police Department within their respective communities.

The CPA is offered free of charge and is scheduled to commence on Thursday, September 7th, 2023, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Subsequent sessions will be held every Thursday thereafter, with the projected graduation date set for November 9th, 2023. Additionally, there will be two Saturday sessions on October 14th and November 4th, 2023, from 9 am to 1 pm. The training sessions will be conducted at various locations across the City of Celina, although it should be noted that dates and locations are subject to change based on the needs of the department.

Applicants must be either citizens of Celina, residing in the city or county, or employed within the city limits. Furthermore, participants must be at least 18 years old. Due to the hands-on nature of the training, class sizes will be limited. We plan to offer two academy sessions per year, providing multiple opportunities for individuals to join. Please bear in mind that this program is still in its early stages, and those who are accepted will play a crucial role in paving the way for future academies.

Upon successful completion of the Citizen Police Academy, graduates will have the opportunity to become Volunteers in Policing (VIPs). This program enables volunteers to support the Celina Police Department and their community in various capacities, both within the office and out on patrol.

Further details regarding the volunteer groups and the application process will be provided later in the year. Should you have any inquiries or comments, please feel free to reach out to Officer Chase Guidera via email at cguidera@celina-tx.gov.
