Municipal Court

The following is general information regarding the Celina Municipal Court. For questions, please call 972-382-2682. 
 
Verify all fine and court costs by contacting the Municipal Court Clerk.  Payment can be made by cash, check, money order or credit card.  Credit card users will be assessed a 3% convenience fee.

ONLINE PAYMENTS

If you wish to make an online payment for a Celina Municipal Court violation, please visit our 3rd party vendor, trafficpayment.com.
Minors (under the age of 17), must appear in person at city hall  with a parent or guardian and sign a promise to appear in court.
 
DRIVER'S SAFETY COURSE

Under certain circumstances, you have a right to take a Driver's Safety Course to keep a moving violation off your driving record.

  • You must request this in person within fifteen (15) calendar days from the date of your citation.
  • You are required to present your valid Texas driver license and proof of financial responsibility (or proof of insurance) and pay court costs and administrative fees of either $107.10 or $133.10 if offense occurred within a school zone.

You do not qualify to take defensive driving

  • if you have done so within the last 12 months to dismiss a citation
  • If you were charged with speeding 25 MPH or more over the posted speed limit
  • If you hold a class A or B CDL (commercial driver license)
  • If you were passing a school bus
  • If you were cited in a work zone (workers present)

 

DEFERRED DISPOSITION                              

Under certain circumstances, you may qualify for the privilege of deferred disposition to keep a citation off your driving record. 

  • The deferral period begins when the court receives the fine and costs amount in full.
  • The deferred time frame is 90 to 180 days (length of time is decided upon by the judge), without ANY CONVICTED traffic citations in the City of Celina.
  • This option can be requested in person, by mail or in writing.
Drivers aged 25 and under must take a state approved Driver's Safety Course as a stipulation of the Deferral guidelines
 
You do not qualify for deferred disposition
  • if you have done so in the last 12 months
  • if you hold a (CDL) commercial driver license.
 

COMPLIANCE DISMISSALS                             

Some offenses can be dismissed by showing proof of compliance and paying a $20.00 dismissal fee. 

These offenses are:

  • Expired Inspection (if not expired more than 60 days), if expired more than 60 days, defendant pays the fine
  • Expired Registration (if not expired more than 60 days), if expired more than 60 days, you must pay late registration fee to the Registration Office and provide proof to the court within 20 business days from the ditation date or the appearance date whichever is later
  • Change of address.
  • Expired Driver License.

 

PROOF OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

If you have received a citation for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (or "no insurance", and you have insurance or proof of financial responsibility, you can fax a copy to the court or show proof in person to have the offense dismissed without a fee.

MORE INFORMATION

If you wish to plea "not guilty", you must appear in person at city hall to sign a “promise to appear” and set up a pre-trial court date.

Failure to appear or pay your fine, may result in an additional charge of Failure to Appear which carries a maximum penalty of $500.00.  Additionally, you may be prevented from registering your vehicle, denied driving privileges, and have warrants issued for your arrest.
